After the great and heavy Turkish defeat at Nagy-Harsany, on September 12, 1687, the Austrian imperial army, which included Hungarian and Croatian troops, liberated Baranja from Ottoman rule.

But when the still fortified and strong Osijek came under the rule of the emperors, on September 29, 1687, the Baranja area became safe from further Turkish wars. The imperial army continues to liberate the area in eastern Croatia, and the most important imperial military leader is Prince Eugene of Savoy.
