Joseph Conrad

Heart of Darkness (1898) is a story about colonial Africa, about the darkness of oppression and plunder as Conrad came to know them during his short stay on the Congo River.

Through the Heart of Darkness we are guided by the character of the old sailor Marlow, who tells his friends gathered on the deck of a ship in England about his experiences. In the center of the story, already towards the reading angle, is either the narrator Marlow or the cruel manager of the trading post Kurtz, to whom Marlow travels.
