Sandman: Beskrajne noći

Neil Gaiman

Before he was on the New York Times bestseller list twice, Neil Gaiman created a revolution in the field of comics with "Sandman".

As the most acclaimed and award-winning comic book series of the past decade, "Sandman" is a generous blend of modern myth and dark fantasy, in which contemporary prose, historical drama and legends are inextricably intertwined.

"Sandman" set new benchmarks in comics literature, so that the ten volumes of the "Sandman" collection are today considered among the top achievements of this medium.

"Sandman": Endless Nights will delight fans of Gaiman's works as well as those who are just discovering graphic novels. Be they eerie, wistful, erotic, or gruesome, the seven stories in this book—one for each of the Infinite's siblings—reveal wondrous secrets and surprising truths. Each story was illustrated by one of the greatest cartoonists from around the world (Glenn Fabry, Milo Manara, Miquelanxo Prado, Frank Quitely, P. Craig Russell, Bill Sienkiewicz, Barron Storey). ***

Neil Gaiman was born on November 10, 1960 in Portchester, England, which means that he was 46 years old when the Croatian edition of "Endless Nights" was published.

He became famous as a top screenwriter for contemporary comics, mainly due to the series «Sandman», winner of nine Will Eisner Awards and three Harvey Awards. The literary biography dictionary declared him one of the ten greatest living postmodern writers.

His third novel "Stardust" was created as an illustrated fairy tale for adults, and in the meantime it also experienced success in a non-illustrated edition and received the prestigious Mythopoeic Award. Gaiman also began to publish highly successful children's picture books, the result of a permanent collaboration with designer Dave McKean.

Their joint film "MirrorMask", produced by Jim Henson's studio, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005. Gaiman's film oeuvre will soon expand with the high-budget adaptation of "Stardust", with its premiere in 2007, and Robert Zemeckis' "Beowulf", a spectacle that Gaiman and co-screenwriter Roger Avary prepared based on the oldest preserved work of English prose.
