Jack Reacher is hitchhiking. A car with two men and one woman stops. They are all dressed in the same shirts. The fat man says they are going to team building. Reacher knows he's lying. A hundred kilometers behind them, the police are conducting an investigation. A man of unknown identity was slaughtered next to the old water pump. He was wearing clothes from Pakistan. The FBI and CIA are involved in the investigation. It soon becomes clear that this is not an ordinary murder, but that behind it is a terrorist organization that could put national security in question.
