In the fall of 1541, King Henrik VIII. and his Royal Procession embark on a spectacular journey to the north of England where the citizens of York prepare a magnificent welcome. Attorney Matthew Shardlake and assistant Jack Barak also arrive in York on official duty in order to draft requests that the citizens will send to the king on that occasion. But Shardlake also received a "special" task from the archbishop - he must make sure that the dangerous conspirator arrives alive for interrogation at the Tower of London. And when they stumble upon a hiding place with secret documents that could threaten the Tudor throne, it will lead them to a shocking discovery and put their lives in danger...
