Suvremene književne teorije

Suvremene književne teorije

Miroslav Beker

Russian formalism, French New Criticism, post-structuralist American criticism, aesthetics of reception, Marxist criticism

Although they do not claim the status of an encyclopedic manual, this book and the book "History of Literary Theories" are a very valuable contribution to Croatian comparative studies, and more broadly — they can also serve as a philological, semiotic or philosophical compendium of texts and theories, starting from antiquity to the present day. In both cases, the recipe is simple and effective — the first part of the book consists of theory, that is, a brief overview of literary theories and the most important authors, and the second part of the book is actually an anthology of texts, a more or less representative selection of works that have marked theoretical reflections on literature in the last hundred years. Thus, the theoretical part includes reviews of Russian formalism, French new criticism, T. S. Eliot and Anglo-Saxon criticism, the aesthetics of reception, and leftist tendencies and new historicism. Accordingly, the anthology includes texts from Viktor Shklovsky to Francis Barker.
