The book is divided into 3 parts. Parker, Emma, Laurel and Mac are four childhood friends who start a wedding planning business together called The Vow.
The main character, Mac Elliot, is a talented photographer who doesn’t believe in eternal love because of her own dysfunctional family – a father who abandoned his first family and an emotionally manipulative mother. Despite this, Mac is passionate about capturing the happy moments of others through her photographs. The plot focuses on Mac’s personal and professional life as she meets Carter Maguire, an English teacher and brother of one of the brides-to-be. What begins as a casual flirtation develops into a deeper emotional connection, forcing Mac to question his views on love and commitment. The novel explores themes of friendship, love, and personal growth, with Roberts’ signature style of combining romance, humor, and powerful dialogue. The friends in The Covenant face challenges in their professional and personal lives, while Mac’s story sets the stage for further novels in the series.
