Kod Bijelog konja

Kod Bijelog konja

Agatha Christie

A priest is called to hear the confession of a dying woman. On his way home, a short while later, he is murdered. The only clue is a list of seemingly unrelated names found on his body.

Mark Easterbrook, intrigued by the mysterious death certificates linked to the list, begins an investigation. He witnesses two girls arguing at a club and later discovers that one of them, Thomasina Tuckerton, has died. Investigating further, Mark links the deaths to a mysterious place called "The White Horse", an old inn now inhabited by a strange trio of women known as the "witches" of Much Deeping. They are linked to rumors of black magic and mysterious deaths. Mark, with the help of Ariadne Oliver, friends and acquaintances such as Rhoda and her husband, uncovers a sophisticated organization behind the supposedly "natural" deaths. The novel explores themes of fear, illusion and manipulation, and is particularly notable for its description of thallium poisoning, which later helped to recognize the symptoms of poisoning in real life (an example from 1977, when a nurse saved a girl's life by recognizing the symptoms in the book).
