Matko na štakama

Matko na štakama

Hrvoje Hitrec

The short novel Matko on crutches is dedicated to children killed in traffic.

The story of a traffic accident and long-term recovery is told in the first person by a seven-year-old boy who was seriously injured when he was hit by a car on the street. Along with the boy Matko, the protagonists are his parents, and a number of episodic characters also appear, from doctors and staff at the children's hospital and spa, to children from Matko's class and, especially, seriously ill children, many of whom were killed in traffic accidents and more seriously than little Matko. There has never been a book in Croatian children's literature with such a topic, which is unfortunately very relevant today.

Hrvoje Hitrec is certainly one of those writers whose works grew up with many who we believe will also try to pass on the messages they learned to their children when they were younger.
