Zvonici i daljine

Aleksa Mikić

Bell Towers and Distances is a collection of lyrical-prose writings in which Aleksa Mikić, through a poetic style and intimate atmosphere, depicts her homeland, people, customs, and the spirit of the times.

The work is strongly immersed in the Bosnian-Herzegovinian landscape, and the motifs of bell towers, fields, hills and distances serve as symbols of memory, identity and spiritual connection with the native land. The author recalls childhood, the smells and sounds of the village, conversations with simple people, their joys and difficulties, but also the socio-historical changes that gradually change the appearance of the village and the way of life. The bell towers represent a spiritual stronghold, and the distances represent a desire for something new, for travel and maturation. Mikić writes warmly, melancholic and reflectively, emphasizing the connection of man with the space from which he comes.
