Renata, the only daughter of the Kluger family, falls in love with Ferdinand, the son of the widow Bril, and promises him eternal love. Ferdinand goes to Graz to study, and Renata, due to her parents' financial problems, marries Rudolf, the son of the Zizers. After the wedding, she becomes pregnant and gives birth to a boy, Aurel. A few years later, Ferdinand visits Renata and, driven by passion, they give themselves to each other. When she finds out that she is pregnant, Renata leaves Rudolf and her beloved son Aurel and goes with Ferdinand to Slavonia. There they get married as Ferdo and Jelena Brilašević and soon become the parents of a little girl, Nada. Years later, Nada and Aurel are adults, and the Zizers change their surname so that Aurel becomes Zlatko Sladaković and shortly after enrolls in the Faculty of Medicine.
