Released in March 2007 on Parlophone, Hymn For My Soul is the twentieth studio album by legendary British singer Joe Cocker. Produced by the renowned Ethan Johns, the album marked Cocker's return to his deepest musical roots – a classic soul, gospel, rhythm and blues and folk sound, accentuated by warm, organic arrangements and live studio performances.
The album is conceived as a carefully selected collection of covers of songs by great authors who have marked modern music. Among them are versions of Bob Dylan's "Ring Them Bells", George Harrison's "Beware of Darkness", Stevie Wonder's "You Haven't Done Nothin'" and the title track "Hymn 4 My Soul" by Andy Fairweather Lowe. Cocker's recognizable, rough and emotionally charged vocals dominate throughout the material, while he is provided with superb instrumental support by musical greats such as bassist Bob Babbitt and drummer Jim Keltner.
