The album was a huge commercial success, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart immediately after its release, confirming the band's status as one of the leading global rock forces of the mid-seventies.
The album was recorded by members of the band's classic and most creative line-up: guitarist and vocalist Francis Rossi, guitarist and vocalist Rick Parfitt, bassist Alan Lancaster and drummer John Coghlan. Although on the material they kept their distinctive, tight and energetic boogie-rock expression based on simple but infectious guitar riffs, Blue For You also brings noticeable production maturity and a slightly greater emphasis on melodic pop-rock structures compared to their predecessors.
There are nine songs on the album, among which the big hit-single "Rain", the cover of the classic "Wild Side of Life", and strong original compositions such as "Blue for You", "Is There a Better Way", "Mystery Song" and "Rolling Home" stand out.
