The monograph "It Was an Honor to Live with Tito" (Bilo je časno živjeti s Titom), published in 1981 (by the Zagreb-based publishing house "Stvarnost"), is one of the best-known and most emotionally charged commemorative editions dedicated to Josip Broz Tito in the years immediately following his death in 1980. The book’s title—taken from one of his well-known statements—became one of the central slogans and symbols of the collective memory of Yugoslav society at the time. The volume serves as a collection of recollections, personal testimonies, journalistic pieces, and photographs that chronicle Tito’s life, his revolutionary struggle, and his career as a statesman. Through the accounts of contemporaries, close associates, fellow fighters, and ordinary citizens, the work seeks to illustrate the unbreakable bond that existed between Tito and the peoples of Yugoslavia. Particular emphasis is placed on preserving the legacy of the National Liberation Struggle, the development of self-managing socialism, and the defense of the country’s independence, as well as its "brotherhood and unity." Richly illustrated with powerful visual material and an emotive narrative, the book holds significant value as a cultural and historical document regarding the phenomenon of the "Tito era," bearing witness to the specific social atmosphere and collective mourning that characterized the early 1980s.
