Beware of Senja's Hand is a historical and political novel by August Šenoa, written and first published in 1876. Diogenes is Šenoa's last completed historical novel: in a way, it is both experimental and new.
The novel is based on the writer's experiences in Shanghai during World War II and in the Civilian Collection Center in Lunghua, where he was interned from 1942 to 1945. Steven Spielberg made a film of the same name based on the script by Tom Stoppard.
Elizabeth tirelessly lectures and gives speeches all over the world. Although it is not entirely clear in this work where fiction ends and fiction begins, the character of Elizabeth is a metaphor for a writer who does not write but gives formal speeches.
