When Olivia Rawlings, a pastry chef at an exclusive Boston club, sets fire to not only her flambéed dessert, but the entire ballroom, she decides to move for a while to the idyllic town of Guthrie, Vermont, where her friend lives.
But her escape turns into something much more permanent when a grumpy lady in an elegant knitted ensemble, Margaret Hurley, offers her a job at her boarding house "Sweet Maple". After she and her dog Salty move into a cottage on the property next to the boarding house, Olivia begins making delicious desserts for the locals of Guthrie. Intoxicated by the aromas of her new kitchen, the melodious music of banjos and violins that are played everywhere in Guthrie, Olivia very quickly fits into the life of a small Vermont town. And when she meets Martin McCracken, who returned to his native Guthrie from Seattle to help his sick father, Olivia realizes that maybe she's not as lonely as she thought...
