Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes im Jahr 1955 begann Jara, Prosa zu schreiben und veröffentlichte ein Dutzend Romane und mehrere Kurzgeschichtensammlungen. Ihr berühmtester Roman war „Jan Nepomucki“ (1969), der zu den Finalisten für den NIN-Preis1 gehörte. Zwischen 1979 und 1991 veröffentlichte sie fünf Memoirenbände unter dem Titel „Leben und Geschichte“.
