U 'Putu u ropstvo' F. A. Hayek iznio je opasnost prijetnju slobodi pokušajima primjene načela ratnog ekonomskog i društvenog planiranja na probleme mira. Hayek je tvrdio da uspon nacizma nije posljedica bilo kakvog karakternog promašaja njemačkog naroda, već posljedica socijalističkih ideja koje su u Njemačkoj stekle uobičajenu valutu u desetljećima prije izbijanja rata. Takve su ideje, ustvrdio je Hayek, sada postale jednako prihvaćene u Britaniji i SAD-u.
