Ben Hur

Ben Hur

Lewis Wallace

Ben-Hur: The Story of Christ was published on November 12, 1880, and is considered "the most influential Christian book of the nineteenth century." It became America's best-selling novel, surpassing Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin.

This is the story of the adventures of a Jewish prince who was unjustly accused and sent to a Roman galley as a slave. After years of fighting for the Roman Empire, he returns home to take revenge on those who betrayed him.

The novel also inspired the famous film "Ben Hur" from 1959, which won 11 Oscars and remains unsurpassed. In the film, as well as in the book, we follow the fate of Judah Ben Hur, his fight for freedom and revenge, but also his inner transformation. This story of betrayal, love and redemption leaves a deep impression on readers and viewers, and its importance was recognized even by Pope Leo XIII.
