Ante Kovačić

The novel U registratura is Kovačić's best work, in which he deals with the problem of the transition from the peasant class to the lordly class.

The novel was published in 1888. The author tells the fate of poor Ivica Kičmanović, who comes from a village in Zagorje to study in the city. Over the course of thirty years, Ivica's childhood, youth and early mature years were covered until the tragic end - suicide in the burning registry office. The work is a peculiar mixture of realism and fantasy, naturalism and romance.
