Oistoriji Drugog svetskog rata mnogo se pisalo i postoji bezbroj viđenja i tumačenja pojedinih etapa rata.

Neka su objektivna, a neka i sada služe interesima raznih država.Dvoboj orlova Pitera Taunsenda nije, međutim, samo viđenje vazdušnog rata tog prohujalog vremena, nego i istorija stvaranja RAF-a, vazduhoplovnih snaga Velike Britanije i istrgnuta ali izuzetno značajna epizoda – bitka za Veliku Britaniju. Autor i sam akter tih duela iznad Britanije i kanala, istakao se svojom borbenošću i odlučnošću da odbrani britanske konvoje od nasrtaja nemačkih bombardera. Dva puta oboren, jednom od svog plena, bombardera Do-17, a drugi put od Meseršmita Bf109 i tom prilikom je teško ranjen.
