Vizionarova misija : fra Aloysius (Lujo) Marun (1857.-1939.), utemeljitelj hrvatske nacionalne arheologije

Mate Zekan

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Fra Lujo Marun, the Split Museum of Croatian Archaeological Monuments (MHAS) published a book by museum advisor Mate Zekan, "The Visionary's Mission".

The book is the result of the author's research into archival material on the life and work of Fr. Aloysius (Luje) Marun (1857-1939), the founder of Croatian archaeology, founder of the First Museum of Croatian Monuments in 1893 (today's MHAS), and initiator of "Starohrvatska prosvjeta", the first journal for the Middle Ages among the South Slavs, which is still published today by MHAS. The work of Fr. Marun, who investigated a dozen early Christian and more than thirty medieval churches, collected more than 600 objects from prehistoric times and a large number of Roman stone monuments, is presented in detail and supported by notes, and illustrated with documentary photographs and drawings. In addition to 355 notes, 66 images, and a list of bibliographic units by Luje Marun, the book also includes an index of names and an index of localities. The text of Mate Zekan's book was also published as an original scientific paper in "Starohrvatska prosvjeta", vol. 34 (2007).
