This dissertation is a final report presenting the main results of the first scientific inventory of Croatian soils, carried out in the period from 1962 to 1985. The book includes a pedological map.
The author systematically presents pedological factors and processes of soil formation and their natural scientific elaboration. He presents and describes the genetic sequences of soils depending on the geological-lithological base, relief, climate and natural vegetation. Special attention is paid to the relationships between vegetation and soil, and between man and soil. Economically interesting soil types and subtypes are described, and their physical and chemical properties are presented. The variability of soil properties caused by bioclimatic and cultural influences in Croatia is discussed. The processes of soil damage and protection are also presented, and finally the geography of soils is presented on a comprehensive pedological map.
