Mauro Stipanov

Mauro Stipanov

Zvonko Maković

Mauro Stipanov (born 1955 in Rijeka) is a Croatian painter, graphic artist and set designer, recognized for his suggestive, emotional and expressive artistic expression.

His work is characterized by Mediterranean poetics, melancholy, figuration with elements of the surreal, and rich color. Recognizable by his lyrical figuration, often on the border between the real and the imaginary. He combines intimate, melancholic themes with elements of fantasy. His paintings often depict female figures, birds, the sea, moonlight, windows, ships – all in the function of creating an emotional atmosphere. His work is extremely personal, recognizable, but also communicative – it easily reaches the audience. He is often described as a "painter of the soul", who paints what is felt, not just seen. Over the years, he has developed a consistent visual language, with which he remains faithful to the intimate, emotional figuration. He also uses graphic techniques, drawings, and monotypes.
