In Berlin in the 1930s, the dark days of Hitler's Third Reich are dawning. Nineteen-year-old German Sofia Alexander could not have imagined how much her life would change. As the beautiful daughter of a prominent surgeon, Sofia enjoys family life with her father, mother, and sister and believes that helping others is her calling. Suddenly, overnight, Sofia witnesses the ruthless expulsion of Jews and decides to help save them, regardless of the consequences. When war breaks out, Sofia goes to a convent and continues to fight against the Nazi regime, heedless of the dangers. Despite all precautions, the Nazis arrest her and take her to the infamous Ravensbrück concentration camp. When she meets a British pilot whose plane was shot down nearby, Sofia's situation becomes even more complicated. As she nurses him, they grow closer, but she refuses to give up her religious calling. In the end, she will have to reexamine her choices and find her way to happiness.
