Ljetne sestre

Ljetne sestre

Judy Blume

Summer Sisters (1998) follows the lifelong friendship of two girls from different worlds: Victoria "Vix" Leonard, a humble girl from a working-class family in New Mexico, and wealthy, rebellious Caitlin Somers.

In 1977, 12-year-old Vix befriends rebellious Caitlin at school. She invites her to a summer villa on Martha's Vineyard, where they bare their bodies, swim naked, and form a sisterly bond. Vix's impoverished world and Nathan's muscular dystrophy highlight the contrasts.

The following summers change everything: Lamb marries Abby, who secures Vix a scholarship. They meet the mischievous Von and Bru, with whom Vix falls in love. They babysit for the familiar—Vix sees danger, Caitlin sees adventure. Nathan gains confidence at camp.

At 17, after Caitlin's trip to Europe, they enter into a passionate relationship, becoming adults. Before college, Caitlin travels, Vix works on an island, and deepens her relationship with Bru. At Harvard, with support, Vix makes new friends, but her relationship with Bru suffers because of her different dreams.

After graduating, Vix makes a film about disabled children and does editing in New York. They face the fear of AIDS, loss, and affair; Caitlin influences them all. The story explores the limits of friendship, shaping lives through decades of summer discovery and freedom.
