Hrvatska autobiografska proza : Rasprave, predavanja, interpretacije

Helena Sablić Tomić

This textbook is a concise framework for lectures on Croatian autobiographical prose.

Within three larger chapters (discussions, lectures, interpretations), Helena Sablić Tomić sought to ensure a simpler monitoring of the changes that occurred in autobiographical prose at the level of expression and content from the Romantic period to the present. She did this through synthetic narratological and poetic analyses of autobiographical texts from a literary period, through a presentation of the generic-typological specificities of autobiographical prose, to several sketchy interpretations of books written in the first person singular that were the focus of her interest. In them, she paid particular attention to the figure of expressing the personality of the autobiographical subject in public and in private, considering the spirit of the time in which the autobiography was written. Following new insights into the character of autobiographical creativity from the emergence of Ljudevit Gaj to Igor Mandić through about twenty scientific reflections, Helena Sablić Tomić recognizes periodization stylistic tendencies in her new manuscript, all the while emphasizing that there are no "pure" terms. After precisely determining the relationship between periodization terms and describing the political-historical and cultural context, the essays very clearly organize a discussion about the specificity of the genre and the author's view on the lives of others.
