Rain / Kiša

Arsen Dedić

Rain is a bilingual collection of poems by Arsen Dedić. The book contains a selection of Dedić's poems with parallel English translations, focusing on the themes of rain as a metaphor for melancholy, transience, love, loneliness, and urban life.

Kiša / Rain is a selection of Arsen's poems in Croatian with a parallel English translation. The book was published as part of the Croatian PEN Center's promotional/literary series for the congress – a symbolic gesture of presenting Croatian literature to world writers in the midst of siege and war.

The poems are intimate, melancholic, with a jazzy touch and chanson sadness – typical Dedić of the 90s: a wistful reflection on life, love, death and transience, without pathos, but with deep emotion. The congress was an important political and cultural event: 450 writers from all over the world came to wartime Dubrovnik to support Croatia and freedom of speech, and the book served as a "souvenir" and promotion of Croatian poetry.

The edition is rare. Arsen participated in the congress as a prominent Croatian writer and singer-songwriter.
