The novel originally titled La Planete des singes, which was the basis for the 1968 film Planet of the Apes.
The novel is about three human explorers from Earth who visit a planet orbiting the star Betelgeuse, where the great apes are the dominant intelligent and civilized species, while humans are reduced to a savage animal state.
