The themes vividly present to us the history of God with his people and the person and message of Jesus Christ. The biblical texts are taken from the translation used in worship and religious education.
The book selects and comments on central biblical texts: creation, guilt and sin, faith, injustice, oppression, suffering and death, justice and peace, the future of man: his salvation, life after death. Expert introductions and themes, and expressive photographs bring the biblical message to life in a new way. Special attention is also paid to the selection of images; some serve to illustrate the text, but most of them aim to establish a relationship between the text and today's living environment. They are intended as a visual aid in dealing with the Bible. The Appendix contains a time table, an explanation of the most important biblical names and words, an index of entries, an index of biblical quotations, names and abbreviations of biblical books, information on the division of biblical texts into chapters and verses, and geographical maps.
