Strip 81 #5

Strip 81 #5

A cult Yugoslav comic magazine that brought a top selection of international and domestic comics, from classics like Fantom to more modern adventures, in a recognizable large format and with an ambitious editorial selection.

Strip 81/82/83 was an extremely respected comic magazine published by Politikin Zabavnik from 1981 to 1983. Although the name of the magazine changed according to the calendar year – Strip 81, Strip 82, Strip 83 – it was a unique, continuous edition that published a total of 95 issues in three years. Larger in format, with high-quality graphics and editorially well-thought-out, the magazine was remembered for bringing a representative selection of world comics to Yugoslavia and presenting them for the first time in a more complete, clear form.

The magazine published works by a number of famous authors and comics: The Phantom, Mandrake, Rip Kirby, French-Belgian adventure series, westerns, science fiction and humorous comics. The editorial policy was focused on diversity, international quality and a balance between classic and more contemporary comics. This made the magazine a bridge between readers and a wide range of genres and aesthetics, which were not easily accessible at the time.

On forums and among collectors, Strip 81/82/83 is considered one of the highest quality Yugoslav comic editions – often highlighted are the excellent covers, neat printing, selection of stories and the rare opportunity for readers to get to know different world series in a unique format. Today, issues of this edition are sought after by collectors, and the digitized versions and lists of contents preserve the memory of the magazine that shaped the comic taste of a generation.
