Old Surehand 1-2

Old Surehand 1-2

Karl May

Old Surehand is one of the most famous characters and a series of novels by German writer Karl May, set in the American Wild West.

The main character, Old Surehand, is a mysterious "westerner" known for his unerring hand (hence the name). In the novels, he often appears alongside legendary Mayan heroes such as Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. The plot follows their efforts to defend friends (such as Bloody Fox) from hostile Comanches in the Llano Estacado desert region, and to uncover Old Surehand's own dark past. The book also contains numerous interpolated stories told by travelers at the inn, including those about historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln. The books' popularity led to film adaptations in the 1960s (e.g. Old Surehand 1. Teil in 1965), in which the title character was played by Stewart Granger.
