Pregled filozofije I

Miljenko Vidović

The work was created within the framework of Vidović's educational movement, which viewed philosophy as a means of moral education, personal improvement, and social transformation.

The Review of Philosophy I from 1931 cannot be viewed separately from the personality of its author, Miljenko Vidović, one of the most extraordinary educational figures of interwar Bosnia and Herzegovina. A philosopher, pedagogue and charismatic speaker, Vidović gathered around him a wide circle of followers and developed what was known to his contemporaries as the “Vidović School” or the “Vidović Movement”.

The movement arose from the belief that social progress is not possible without the moral and spiritual transformation of the individual. Through lectures, courses, publishing and adult education, Vidović promoted self-education, ethical living, critical thinking and lifelong learning. His followers saw philosophy less as an academic discipline and more as a practical path of personal development and the creation of a better society.

In this context, the Review of Philosophy I was also written, which, through a presentation of Eastern wisdom traditions, the Pre-Socratics, the Sophists and Socrates, seeks to show how man’s search for truth and moral perfection has developed throughout history. The book is therefore equally important as a philosophical manual and as a document of a distinctive intellectual and educational movement that left a noticeable mark on the cultural life of interwar Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
