Modern inventions in science, craft and art is the second book in the famous Matica series, published in 1883. The work was written by Bogoslav Šulek, Mijo Kišpatić and Ljudevit Rossi with the aim of introducing the most important achievements of modern science, technology and industry to a wide range of readers. The book is part of an extremely popular series that has become synonymous with popular science literature in Croatian culture and has played an important role in spreading technical knowledge and creating Croatian professional terminology.

The authors cover inventions and technological processes that marked the industrial age. Special attention is paid to paper, measuring instruments, optical devices, photography, glass and porcelain production and other achievements that enabled the faster development of science, craft and industry.
