Marija Renić

Katja, a sixteen-year-old girl from Vinkovci, from a divorced family, embarks on her first solo summer trip across Croatia. With adventures, friendships, music, and adult challenges, she seeks her path at the crossroads of her youth.

The main character is Katja, a sixteen-year-old girl from Vinkovci whose parents are divorced. She lives "at two addresses", not wanting to belong to anyone, and decides to spend her summer holidays on her first independent trip to Croatia. The novel follows her adventures, encounters with new people and landscapes, but also numerous life trials. Katja lives faster than her years - she encounters themes of growing up, friendship, love, music (punk and alternative scene), parties, but also the challenges of independence.

The plot takes place in parallel with Stipe Juras' novel Where the Visionaries Go. Characters and events intertwine, so it is interesting to read both books and see the same story from the perspectives of Katja and Ruby. The novel is structured in three parts, it is dynamic, full of witty dialogues and current topics of youth (2007/2008 - music, travel, friendships, the search for identity), and it all ends with an unexpected denouement.

The book is energetic, authentic and written from the perspective of a teenager – Marija Renić wrote it when she was 18-19, inspired by her own blog and experiences. It is ideal for young people looking for a story about growing up without idealization, with a touch of realism, humor and rock'n'roll spirit.
