Junaci Domovinskog rata #5

Junaci Domovinskog rata #5

Davor Runtić

The fifth volume brings authentic stories and fates of veterans such as Miljenko Bratoš, Marko Mandić, Đuro Raguž, Damir Hornung, Franjo Jusup, Stjepan Vidaković, and comrades from various battlefields.

The fifth book in the exceptional documentary-historical series Heroes of the Homeland War by Davor Runtić continues the extensive and dignified documentation of the war journeys of people who bore the burden of defending Croatia in the crucial moments of 1991.

This volume is dedicated to the personal treatment of testimonies and biographies of prominent Croatian defenders and volunteers. The book includes the moving stories and fates of: Marko Mandić, Damir Hornung and Franjo Jusup, Mirko Vučeta, Stjepan Klobučar and Vlad Golik, Miljenko Bratoš, Đuro Raguž, Zdenko Baričević, Stjepan Vidaković, Tadija Mrkonjić, Stjepan Mamić, Stipe Gadža and Vjeko Čuljak and Siniša Jovanova.

Through rich material, statements of survivors, documentary records and family memories, the author reconstructs the fates of individuals and pairs of comrades from different battlefields - from the East Slavonian plain to the southern battlefield and Dubrovnik, where the organizer of the defense Miljenko Bratoš worked. Special emphasis is placed on unbreakable wartime friendships, sacrifice and comrades' trust on the front line.

In this volume, Runtić does not write about the war only through the lens of military tactics, but also delves into the human side of the conflict: the selfless courage, resourcefulness and incredible moral strength of "little people" who grew into true heroes in the most difficult circumstances. The book remains an invaluable historical source and a lasting monument to the creators of Croatian freedom.
