Denis Vidović

A satirical collection of poetry and aphorisms by Denis Vidović from 2018. Through humor and irony, the author dissects human flaws, social passivity, conformity, and the daily indulgence of one's own laziness.

"The Appeasement of Laziness" (published in 2018) is a distinctive, humorous and critically-minded literary work by Croatian author Denis Vidović. The book brings a specific mix of poetry, short prose and aphorisms in which the author analyzes contemporary society, human mentality and our innate need for the line of least resistance in an exceptionally insightful and satirical way. The author's interest lies in human weaknesses, with an emphasis on passivity, conformity, inertia and, as the title suggests, the ruthless appeasement of one's own laziness. With a great sense of humor and irony, Vidović speaks about everyday situations, the absurdities of modern everyday life, but also the deeper existential questions that an individual faces in the struggle with their own motivation. Instead of dry moralizing, the author uses a sharp style, wordplay and short, striking forms that simultaneously make the reader laugh and encourage them to deeply question their own habits, procrastination and life priorities. Written in a very accessible, accessible and dynamic style, this collection is a noticeable refreshment on the domestic literary scene. "The Overcoming of Laziness" is an extremely entertaining, yet educational work that lucidly reflects everyday life and offers a relaxing, yet thoughtful break from the hustle and bustle of life.
