Runo

Runo

Ante Gugo

A suspenseful novel by Ante Guga from 2002. Through an exciting search for a mysterious object, the author combines elements of an action thriller, intelligence intrigue, and historical mysteries set in the domestic region.

"Runo" (published in 2002) is a dynamic and tense novel by the renowned Croatian journalist, publicist and writer Ante Guga. In this work, the author skillfully reflects on the genre of action and intelligence thriller, interweaving contemporary political-espionage intrigues with historical mysteries, mythology and secrets from the past related to the Croatian region. The title of the novel alludes to the motif of a precious, mythical artifact (like the Golden Fleece), which becomes the subject of a frantic search by various interest groups — from secret services and powerful individuals to adventurers and the criminal underworld. The plot unfolds at a fast pace, leading the reader through a labyrinth of unexpected twists, dangers, conspiracies and intelligence games in which no one is what they seem at first glance. With journalistic precision and a good knowledge of social and political mechanisms, Gugo creates a convincing background, incorporating recognizable elements of the local mentality, corruption and the race for power into the story. The main characters are forced to test their own limits, loyalty and courage in order to survive in a cruel web of deception. Written in a very cinematic, fast and fluent style, with short and striking chapters, the novel "Runo" provides top-notch entertainment for lovers of high spirits. It is a work that successfully combines action, history and a dose of mysticism, keeping the reader's attention until the denouement.
