Veterinarska toksikologija: Pesticidi

The book Veterinary toxicology (School book, 1974) by professor Vjekoslav Srebočan is one of the key professional and scientific works in the field of veterinary medicine in the region. Conceived as a university textbook and a practical manual for veterinarians, the book systematically deals with harmful substances and poisons that domestic and wild animals encounter in their environment, nutrition or breeding. The content of the textbook is divided into general and special parts. In the general part, the author explains the fundamental principles of toxicology: the ways of entry and elimination of poisons from the body, the mechanisms of action on cells and organs, and the general principles of diagnostics, pathoanatomical findings and treatment of poisoned animals. A special section is devoted to a detailed analysis of certain groups of poisons, including pesticides, heavy metals, plant and animal poisons (mycotoxins, phytotoxins, snake venoms), industrial pollutants and medicines. Although it was published in 1974, the book still today represents an extremely important historical and professional basis for understanding the impact of chemical substances on animal health and food safety of animal origin.
