Zagor LU #325: Vatreni idol
Zagor resolves the mystery of ancient papyri before a fire in Darkwood draws him into another conflict with Cromm’s servants, a sect seeking power through ancient magic.
Vatreni idol connects the conclusion of an archaeological adventure with the beginning of an occult conflict. Zagor first confronts Julia Schulz’s followers and the mystery surrounding papyri from the Library of Alexandria. Ancient knowledge then gives way to the threat of ancient rituals.
A fire in Darkwood signals renewed activity by the Servants of Cromm. These fanatics seek to restore old cults and establish their own domain in the New World, drawing on magic to achieve their ambitions.
Burattini links the pursuit of hidden knowledge and a fanatical desire for power across two adventures. Zagor must bring one conflict to an end before recognising another threat to his forest. The change of setting also changes the suspense: an archaeological puzzle gives way to organised opponents with ritual objectives.
Bane Kerac illustrates the conclusion of the earlier story, while the Esposito brothers take over the new adventure. Their contrasting approaches accompany the shift towards a darker atmosphere.
The issue completes the storyline begun in Monument Valley and opens the arc spanning Ludens #325–327, continued in Crommovi sluge and concluded in Obredna žrtva.
