Dimitrije Popović

Božo Biškupić

"Dimitrije" is an art monograph and exhibition catalogue dedicated to the artist Dimitrije Popović. It features reproductions of works, critical reviews and an overview of his early artistic development.

Dimitrije, authored by Bože Biškupić, is an art monograph and exhibition catalogue published in 1981 by the publishing house Dometa from Rijeka. The work is dedicated to the painter and graphic artist Dimitri Popović, one of the most significant artists of the younger generation of the Yugoslav and Croatian art scene of the second half of the 20th century. The book was printed in a limited edition of 500 copies, which is why it has a certain antiquarian value today.

The foreword entitled Hommage a Dimitrije was written by Milan Zinaić, a prominent cultural worker and connoisseur of contemporary art. It emphasizes the uniqueness of Popović's artistic expression, his technical precision and his interest in the themes of the human body, erotica, spirituality and existential drama.

The monograph presents an overview of Popović's early creativity, created in the period when he asserted himself on the domestic and international art scene. His works show the influences of Renaissance art, surrealism and symbolism, but at the same time develop a recognizable authorial style marked by strong psychological and visual expression.

As a document of an important period in the development of Dimitrij Popović, the book has value for both art history and collectors. At the same time, it testifies to the publishing and cultural activities of Božo Biškupić, who promoted contemporary art through numerous bibliophile and fine art publications and collaborated with leading artists of his time.
