Isaac Asimov

The iconic novel in Isaac Asimov's science fiction series of the same name, published in 1951, follows the decline of the Galactic Empire and the establishment of the Foundation for the Preservation of Knowledge. The book is a foundation of the science fi

The action is set in the distant future, where the galaxy, centered on the planet Trantor, is sinking into chaos. Harry Seldon, mathematician and creator of psychohistory - the science that predicts the future through statistical models - predicts the collapse of the Empire and the millennial darkness. In order to shorten the period of barbarism, Seldon establishes a Foundation on the remote planet Terminus, where a group of scientists work on an encyclopedia of knowledge.

The novel is divided into episodes that follow different generations. The foundation faces crises, such as conflicts with nearby kingdoms and internal political struggles. Key characters, such as Salvor Hardin, Mayor of Terminus, use diplomacy, trade and technology to preserve the Foundation, while Seldon's predictions guide their path through hologram messages. Asimov explores themes of power, science and fate, showing how the manipulation of knowledge and politics shapes history. The style is intellectual, with a focus on dialogue and strategy rather than action.
