Po Skandinaviji: crtice iz Švedske, Norveške i Danske (s 12 slika)
A vivid travelogue by Ante Messner-Sporšić through Sweden, Norway and Denmark from the 1930s. Impressive sketches of the nature, cities, people and culture of Scandinavia with 12 paintings.
The author, a professor and experienced travel writer, brings personal impressions from travels through Scandinavian countries on the eve of World War II. The book is written in a lively, accessible and picturesque style, taking the reader through the magnificent fjords of Norway, Swedish cities and landscapes, Danish villages and Copenhagen. Messner-Sporšić skillfully combines descriptions of nature, monuments, customs and everyday life of Scandinavians with historical and cultural attractions, while comparing the northern mentality with our southern one.
Of particular value are numerous personal anecdotes and encounters with people, which makes the book warm and readable, far from a dry guide. The text is accompanied by 12 pictures (photographs), which additionally evoke the atmosphere of Scandinavia in the thirties of the last century.
This is one of the most famous works of Ante Messner-Sporšić, along with his travelogues Around the Near East, In Italy and France and From Bucharest to Ankara. The 1939 edition is considered a sought-after interwar travelogue. Copies in good condition are relatively rare and prized among collectors of Croatian travel literature and antiquarian books from the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
