Johnny Merrimon had a perfect childhood: a warm home, wonderful parents, and Alyssa, his twin sister, with whom he was deeply attached. He had never known suffering or loss until the day Alyssa disappeared on the street while returning from the library. A year later, Johnny is lonely and misunderstood because no one but him believes that Alyssa is alive. In search of his sister, Johnny risks his life to explore the dark side of his hometown.

Detective Clyde Hunt has never given up on the search for Alyssa. The case haunts him, keeps him awake at night, and jeopardizes his career. His superiors think he is crazy and threaten to fire him, but he continues to review the files and visit Johnny and his mother.
