Anthology of 20th Century Love Poetry represents the culmination of Zvonimir Golob's decades-long work on the selection and translation of modern love poetry. The book is based on his legacy and includes Croatian and foreign poets of the 20th century, with many poems translated directly from the original languages. Golob consciously does not rely only on canonical authors, but also includes more contemporary and less represented poets in order to present the diversity of love poetry of the past century.

In the preface, the compiler explains that the anthology has been in the making for almost thirty years and emphasizes that the selection was guided primarily by personal reading and poetic experience. Referring to Tadeusz Różewicz's thought that "to talk about love is to talk about loss", Golob does not view love poetry as a series of romantic motifs, but as a space in which longing, transience, memory, physicality and the need to preserve one's own experience in words meet.

Because of this approach, the anthology is not a review of the "most famous love poems", but an authorially shaped selection that reflects Golob's taste, translation work and understanding of modern lyricism. At the same time, the book shows how love poetry during the 20th century moved away from idealized depictions of feelings and became more intimate, direct and thematically complex, thus representing a valuable overview of the development of love lyrics in modern poetry.

The title poem, "The Black Rabbit," represents a kind of symbolist maneuver within "real" poetry, because like Baudelaire's "Albatross," it possesses a pronounced unambiguous charge.
