The book Children's Literature: A Handbook for Students and Teachers by the prominent literary scholar, educator, and professor Milan Crnković is one of the most important works in shaping and establishing children's literature as an autonomous academic discipline in Croatia. The eighth edition, published in 1984 (by Školska knjiga), presents a comprehensive and systematically developed methodological-theoretical framework intended for students of teacher-training colleges and for teachers.
