Megre i njegov mrtvac

Megre i njegov mrtvac

Georges Simenon

Maigret and His Dead Man is a detective novel by Georges Simenon in which Commissioner Jules Maigret investigates a complex murder case in Paris.

The action begins when Megre receives a desperate phone call from an unknown man who claims that someone is chasing him and begs for help. Despite Megre's quick reaction, the man is found dead, stabbed, in an alley in Montmartre. Megre realizes that the victim is "his dead man", because the case started with his call, which makes him personally responsible for the investigation. The victim is Albert Roš, a petty criminal and cafe owner, whose seemingly ordinary life hides a dark past. Megre investigates Albert's life, uncovering connections with organized crime and gangs from Eastern Europe. Key clues lead him to the Parisian underworld, involving shady characters such as ex-convicts and mysterious strangers. Through conversations with Albert's wife and acquaintances, Megre slowly sheds light on the motives of the murder, which are connected to revenge and old criminal debts.
