The rich and beautiful Linnet Ridgeway married Simon Doyle, a young man whom she betrayed to her best friend Jacqueline De Bellefort. Linnet and Simon go on their honeymoon in Egypt, but the jealous and embittered Jacqueline follows them everywhere and creates scenes. When the couple goes on a Nile cruise, Jacqueline shows up on board. Hercule Poirot, who is on vacation, happens to be there, and is soon joined by his friend, Colonel Race.
