Eric Knight

A touching novel about the loyalty of a collie, Lesia, who, after his family sells him due to poverty, travels hundreds of kilometers to return to his beloved boy, Joe.

The classic of children's literature "Lassie Comes Home" by E. Knight is a timeless story of unwavering loyalty, love and courage. The story is set in Yorkshire during the Great Depression. The family of a boy named Joe Carraclough falls into a severe financial crisis and is forced to sell their purebred Collie, Lassie, to a wealthy nobleman. Although taken hundreds of kilometers away to the north of Scotland, Lassie, guided by instinct and love for the boy, escapes and sets off on an incredible, dangerous journey back home. Throughout the dramatic adventure, the dog encounters numerous obstacles - from adverse weather conditions and hunger to dangers from people and other animals, but also with noble individuals who help her along the way. In the novel, Knight not only celebrates animal loyalty, but also touches on themes of social justice, family ties and honesty. The 1966 edition of the Squirrel Library marked the coming of age of numerous generations of domestic readers, establishing the character of Lassie as a universal symbol of loyalty and unbreakable friendship between man and dog.
