Zagor LU #317: Vigilanti
Zagor leads resistance to a banker’s violent rule in Ashtonville, while Rita Duff’s abduction offers a former hired gun a chance to make amends.
Vigilanti (The Vigilantes) takes Zagor to Ashtonville, a town controlled by banker Langley and his armed enforcers. Extortion, intimidation and violence flourish behind the appearance of public order. Only a few residents dare to resist, and Zagor takes the lead in their struggle.
His allies include Rita Duff, whom he met during an earlier adventure, and her brother Elias, who possesses an unusual ability to communicate with animals. They are joined by Parrish, a former gunman in Langley’s service. Recognising the harm he caused, Parrish abandoned violence but subsequently sought refuge in alcohol.
When Rita is kidnapped and held in the vigilantes’ fortified stronghold, the confrontation becomes personal. Zagor must help those under threat, while Parrish faces the opportunity to turn remorse into an act of redemption. His response matters to the struggle against the men he once served.
The story combines action-driven frontier adventure with themes of corruption, coercion and civic courage. Ashtonville is a community where armed force has become an extension of financial power. Marcello Mangiantini illustrates a conflict in which liberating a town also raises a personal question: can someone who helped sustain oppression finally choose a different path?
